by Ahmed Elborno, M.D.
Patients who has been sidelined by chronic neck or back pain, have found relief in an innovative procedure performed by Dr. Ahmed Elborno, Medical Director of the Adventist Hinsdale hospital Pain center of Excellence, Formerly, Chairman of Rush Oak Park Hospital Anesthesiology Department and associate professor of Anesthesia and Pain Management, Rush-Presbyterian-St. Lukes Medical center. Dr. Ahmed Elborno is now offering many less invasive procedures for management of neck and back pain that is resulting from disc bulging and pinched nerves.
Herniated Disc and Pinched Nerve
Agonizing and sometimes debilitating back pain can be experienced by people with contained herniated discs, an injury that strikes about one and a half-million Americans each year. Commonly referred to as a "thrown-out back" or "pinched nerve," this injury can be accompanied by intense pain in and around the affected disc as well as in surrounding areas of the lower back and in the leg.
Minimally Invasive DISC Decompression
Is a quick procedure that requires only local anesthesia and very light sedation. A tiny catheter, radio waves and a cool ionized gas, combined to vaporize the excess bulging tissue. The result: most patients experience instant relief. Decompressing the nucleus of the disc is a proven technique for relieving disc herniation, and for treating the pinched nerve pain symptoms. It is the latest scientific advance in performing disc decompression.
Dr. Elborno, Who also teaches the procedure to new practitioners, says he himself continues to be wowed by the success of this method “ I have patients whose life style changed for the worse after chronic neck or back pain set in”. After the procedure, they became able to do things they missed doing for so long…lifting grand children, playing golf, swimming. It’s very gratifying to take away the pain and see that kind of change.”
